OPERATIONS

ASTECH engineering capabilities extend from basic concept to complete design responsibility of complex structural systems. Examples range from the exhaust nozzle designs of the F-117A stealth fighter to the lightweight titanium exhaust system for the Airbus A330.

Manufacturing capabilities meet the rigid disciplines of repeatedly producing high-strength, lightweight panels, components, and assemblies. Precision equipment includes panel fabrication machines and stretch-wrap equipment, designed and built in-house, and complemented by a production and tooling facility geared to manufacture either prototype or production hardware.

Outstanding manufacturing management and skilled technicians employ advanced manufacturing equipment, such as automatic plasma arc welding equipment, laser tracking welding systems, hydraulic presses up to 2,000 tons, stretch-wrap machines to 250 tons, and one of the largest vacuum furnace facilities in the U.S.

Materials and process engineering personnel are specialists in metalurgy, sheet metal fabrication, joining and heat-treat operations. Extensive capabilities include physical and mechanical property evaluation, process control, product evaluation, qualification testing, and failure analysis.

For over thirty years, the most important part of every structure is the quality we design and build into it. ASTECH’s quality system meets MIL-Q-9858A and MIL-I-45208 criteria, and holds a multitude of customer quality approvals, including Boeing D1-9000. Beyond that, the company fully embraces TQM/SPC philosophy, integrating such practices throughout the facilities with an aim toward continuous improvement.

We take steps to ensure precision. Computerized coordinate measurement machines confirm tight dimensional tolerances and our fully-equipped lab facilities support both destructive and non-destructive testing.
